Validating a Startup Idea From Concept to User Testing

In this newsletter, I'll share how I utilized AI tools to develop and test a new product concept.

Overview

LingoTravel

This real-time translation app is designed to help travelers navigate critical communication scenarios, such as explaining food allergies in restaurants or describing symptoms during medical emergencies.

The Concept of LingoTravel

LingoTravel provides instant translation for crucial communication needs. Travelers can easily convey important details like food allergies or medical conditions in any language, helping them stay safe and understood with their customized profiles and preferences saved for quick retrieval.

User Storyboards: Illustrating the App's Problem-Solving Approach

To validate the idea, I conducted user interviews and testing sessions with frequent travelers. The goal was to verify whether there was a genuine need for the product and if the problem I identified resonated with potential users. Walking users through the product's features and use cases helped explain the concept effectively.

Building Early Adopter Community

To avoid building an unwanted product, I shared the LingoTravel concept early on LinkedIn. However, despite aiming to attract potential users, the concept generated limited interest. User research later revealed that similar features were already available in existing apps.

Though our sample size was small—only 10 user interviews—I decided to proceed with development.

LingoTravel Available on ChatGPT Marketplace

By offering LingoTravel for free on the ChatGPT marketplace, I can collect valuable user data from real-world usage. These insights will guide the decision about further development of the concept. I will share how this weekend million-dollar project turns out.
